Computing at Seven Mills is led by Matthew Tranter.

At Seven Mills, our ambitious, coherent computing curriculum aims to ensure all of our children:

  • can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation 

  • can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems 

  • can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems 

  • are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.


We have a dual responsibility when it comes to e-safety:

  1. to ensure our online procedures keep children safe, 
  2. to teach our children about online safety, in and outside of school.

Our teachers have ongoing conversations with children about the benefits and dangers of the internet and create an open environment for children and young people to ask questions and raise any concerns.

Teaching online safety is not restricted to IT and computing lessons. Embedding key messages about staying safe online throughout the curriculum helps ensure that children of all ages are taught online safety skills.

This follows the NSPCC Guidance.

Our current priorities in Computing are:

  • To improve teacher subject knowledge and ability to deliver the computing curriculum through a range of software.
  • To create system for recording computing work
  • To improve the quality of and progression between e-safety lessons
